FIFTH PRACTICE: DEVELOPMENT OF PROPOSALS FOR THE DECLARATION OF PROTECTED AREAS IN THE BOTEVGRAD PREVALCAN REGION AS A PART OF THE ECO-TOURIST  INFRASTRUCTURE

CONTEXT, FIELD OF INTERVENTION:

Establishment of protected areas of the Nature Reserve and Protected Site

PERIOD:

2015 - 2020

POPULATION, PARTICIPANTS:

It covers the population of 12 small and medium-sized settlements and focuses on sustainable and innovative activities for environmental management and the development of ecotourism livelihood for large groups of indigenous peoples.

COORDINATORS:

A team from the Association, together with representatives of local municipalities.

METHODOLOGY (HOW THE PRACTICE WORKS):

"Environmental Association PREDBALKAN" has developed three projects in order to initiate their registration in protected areas. Their overall study of the characteristics of the natural environment has been carried out; river canyons, karst caves and cave formations; biodiversity - flora and fauna, including protected species; ecotourism routes as a basis for ecotourism infrastructure, as well as the rafting route.

PROPOSAL FOR NOTIFICATION OF THE LAKEVISH - OSTROM RID AND KOMOVETS FOR A PROTECTED PLACE UNDER ART. 33 AL. 1 of the PAA

In order to maintain and restore the habitat conditions of endangered, rare and vulnerable plant and animal species and communities, it is proposed to declare a protected area: Lakavishko-Ostromski Rid and Komavets
1. Objectives pursuing the designation of a protected site:
1. To preserve and maintain the natural complexes of self-regulating ecosystems, their inherent species diversity, the habitats of rare and threatened species and communities, the characteristic and remarkable landscapes and the objects of the inanimate nature.
2. Provide opportunities for scientific and educational activities to develop ecotourism.
3. Monitor the plant and animal world.
4. To create conditions for the development of the tourism sector in the economy by revealing a new regional ecotourism destination.

PROPOSAL FOR DECLARATION OF A PROTECTED TERRITORY - NATURAL SITUATION -   PRESLAVETS COMPLEX 

In order to maintain ecological monitoring and become an ecotourism attraction, according to Art. 23 para. of the Protected Areas Act is proposed for the proclamation of a natural landmark: "Preslavets" cave complex.
 Objectives pursuing the declaration of protected area
1. To preserve and maintain the natural complex of a self-regulating ecosystem with the same and species diversity, the habitats of rare and endangered species and communities, the characteristic and remarkable landscape and the sites of the non-living nature.
2. Preserve and expose the objects of living and non-living nature.
3. Provide opportunities for scientific and educational activities as well as for the development of ecotourism.

 

PROPOSAL FOR NOTIFICATION OF THE FLOOD OF THE BEBRESH - SOFIA BOJENITSA –  BACKGROUND FOR A PROTECTED PLACE UNDER ART. 33 AL. 1 of the PAA

In order to maintain and restore the habitat conditions of endangered, rare and vulnerable plant and animal species and communities, it is proposed to declare the breach of the Bebresh river between Bozhenitsa and Svode
1. Objectives pursuing the designation of the protected site
1. To preserve and maintain the natural complex of self-regulating ecosystems, their inherent species diversity, the habitats of rare and threatened species and communities, the characteristic and remarkable landscapes and the sites of the non-living nature.
2. To recover, preserve and expose tourist objects from the unique natural environment.
3. Provide opportunities for scientific and educational activities to develop ecotourism.
4. Surveillance of the plant and animal world.
5. To create conditions for the development of the tourist livelihood of the population
 through the discovery of a new regional ecotourism destination.

It is envisaged that the methodological information service will be implemented by the Visitors Information Center of the Association, Ekocenter, located in the village of Praveshka Lakavitsa, Pravets municipality. 

PARTICIPATORY PROCESS:

PARTICIPATION: It is envisaged to attract the tourist companies in the towns of Pravets and Botevgrad as well as groups of students from the schools.

TIME TO BE SUCCESFUL (HOW MANY TIME THE PRACTICE TAKE TO ACHIEVE THEIR OBJECTIVES):

The Association strives to achieve its objectives in the medium term with a trend of sustainable development and maintaining its main activity - methodologically supporting the ecotourism economy in the region while preserving the environment environment.

VALIDITY (IF THE PARTICIPANTS THINK THAT THE PRACTICE RESOLVED THE PROBLEMATIC):

The association strives for the durability of the practice in the future and works for its continuous realization with all available means and efforts.

IMPACT:

The practice of the Association aims to build ecotourism infrastructure in preserving the environment and on its basis to develop ecotourism livelihood of the population.

INNOVATION:

A comprehensive vision for the development of ecotourism infrastructure has been developed as a basis for ecotourism economy in the region.

RESOURCES OR CONDITIONS NEEDED FOR THE PRACTICE:

The practice requires the joint efforts of the local municipalities and the Association for the successful declaration of the protected areas.

LIMITATIONS:

The limitations are in the comparatively small working team of the Association and in the insufficient working interaction with the municipalities.

LEARNED LESSONS: :

The training center of the Association professionally prepares tourist guides for eco-guides and animators to assist the guests and tourists in the protected areas. Issuing: diplomas, certificates and certificates of the trainees.

SUSTAINABILITY:

Practice strives to maintain lasting sustainability in an unlimited future.

Repeatability: The practice strives to develop an innovative methodology to be borrowed and replicated by other similar Bulgarian and foreign organizations and local communities.

REPLICABILITY:
CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION: Practice, albeit hard to measure in numbers, is particularly successful, sustainable in terms of its environmental friendliness, contributes to the formation of members' sense of community and people's participation, and is effectively working.
